Home Birth

Terms:
Has anyone had an assisted or unaassisted home birth?  I would love to hear you experience and what you needed or used to have an unassisted home birth.  Was anyone able to have a home birth even if the insurance didn't cover it?  How did you go about doing this? I wanted to have a home birth with my last baby, but the insurance  would only pay 60% as opposed to the 80% for a hospital birth, so I just wanted to know if anyone was able to negotiate with a midwife a lower price or any other ideas for how to go about having a home birth. Re: Home Birth

Mash'Allaah, this brings up another subject as well- it would be so beneficial if more Muslim women would get training as midwives, insh'Allaah. Anyone know of any good programs for this? Or for Doulas?

Re: Home Birth

ME!!! Childbirth International---for training doulas (birth doulas, postpartum doulas, childbirth educators and lactation counselors) . It's actually an online program. The student is assigned a personal mentor to interact with if they have questions or need assistance. Aviva College--they offer certification for both doulas, midwives, also lactation counselors, perinatal fitness and some other fields.  I really, really wanted to do one of them. Maybe perinatal fitness or childbirth educator. As per my experience, birthing doula is a big, fat NO. Bold it, put in red, ten underlines, italicized, point 72 font....
