As salaamu alaykum. This is very relevant, because many reverts seem unclear about the issue of their past and the permissibility of making it public. Some tell everything, with no regard to the severity of the sin of it, or suitable clarification of the wrong they have come to recognize in it. Others behave as if their past never existed, hence not giving much needed examples of the lessons learned and how Islam brought them from such darkness. As a revert, I have struggled with the concept of being interviewed for television or audio recordings to discuss my reversion to Islam, particularly as a female. I have taken the safest route by using the written word. However, when we consider that this is an age of "media entertainment," it is clearly a strong and effective way to spread  the life saving message of tawheed and Islam. .Jazaakum Allah khayr to all who contributed to this information being disseminated - ameen.

Mash'Allaah, this is very true. I have found that sometimes sharing a bit of our past when giving da'wah can be very effective especially when dealing with teenagers. It has to be done judiciously and wisely, but I have seen, personally, how it can make a difference...
